To Own a Pitbull or Not?

To be a pitbull owner or not is a commitment-filled decision. From the drive time to work, hours spent at the workplace to finding time to walk and care for a pitbull, the responsibilities maybe overwhelming. For prospective pitbull owners who lead a busy life, aside from the personal satisfaction of having a pitbull, a canine's well being should be considered as well.



Bloodhounds have dewlaps. What are dewlaps? They are strange looking, pendulous folds of skin on the back of the neck. They don't seem to serve any useful purpose to the bloodhound, but are rather interesting to look at.


Here is a checklist of questions to determine how conducive or practical pitbull ownership is for you:



Basset hounds are fabulous at hunting and they make wonderful companion dogs. However, even with those great qualities, basset hounds are horrible swimmers! Their legs are simply too small to keep their heavy, long bodies afloat properly.


*What kind of DOG is appropriate for your lifestyle?



There is absolutely no difference between an Australian silky terrier, silky toy terrier and a silky terrier. They are all the same breed, but have different names in different countries, specifically in Australia, Canada and the United States.


*How often can you make the time to exercise your pitbull before and after work?



Part of the reason that basset hounds have such a unique look is that the British purposely bred basset hounds to have short legs, so that hunters could keep up with them. Unfortunate this has caused the breed to be prone to leg/joint problems.


*Given your household and personal budget, is the maintenance of owning a pitbull affordable? (Determine whether you can afford feeding the pitbull, veterinarian visits, hiring a pitbull sitter, or placing your pitbull in a kennel when you are way?



The largest breed of dog that is recognized by the American Kennel Club is the Irish Wolfhound, which stands thirty to 30 to 35 inches at the top of the shoulders and weighs 105 to 125 pounds.


*Are your home or living quarters suited for pitbull living? (Does the condominium board, or landlord approve of pitbulls?



French poodles were originally used as hunting dogs, but, because their thick coats proved a problem in the bush and water, their owners started clipping them. They left hair on the ankles to protect against rheumatism, which is why poodles sometimes appear to have unusual haircuts.


*Do you have the time or money to expend training a pet pitbull?



Many toy fox terriers used to be used commonly in circus shows by clowns. They are said to make great companions for owners with a good sense of humor. They seem to anticipate their master's every thought and mood.


*Identify the personality and characteristics of the type of DOG that matches your personality or is compatible with your lifestyle.



The phal�ne is essentially the same thing as a papillon, except that it has dropped spaniel-like ears. within the first couple of months after birth the ears will either lay flat or raise up permanently. The AKC considers the Phal�ne and the Papillon to be the same breed.


Dog owner tip: Try to schedule time away from work to help you new addition adjust to its new home. Remember to buy books that detail how to care for and train a new pitbull. Just as any relationship requires work, the same is true in the care of a new pitbull.
