Airfare Travel Pitbull Checklist

Flying with your pitbull requires a little more planning than traveling solo or with a human travel partner. To simplify what you need to do, use the following helpful pitbull travel check list.

The diminutive tibetan spaniel, with his feather-like tail, may look a bit like other spaniels, but the breed is actually not a spaniel at all, but more closely related to some combination of the shih tzu, pug, pekingese and Japanese chin.

1. If you plan to travel with your pitbull, book a direct flight. Not to mention, it will reduce the possibility of your pitbull being mishandled by baggage staff or being left behind. During your booking reservation inquire about the airline's restrictions on transporting animals.

The basenji could really be considered more like a cat than a dog. Not only is it the only breed of dog that does not bark, but is also a meticulous cleaner. Unlike other dogs, the basenji actually licks itself clean, just like a cat!

2. Set up an appointment with your pitbull's veterinarian for a check-up, Update your canine's vaccinations if they are not current. While at the veterinarian, coordinate the details of obtaining a health certificate from the veterinarian. The health certificate must be dated within 10 days of your departure.

The largest breed of dog that is recognized by the American Kennel Club is the Irish Wolfhound, which stands thirty to 30 to 35 inches at the top of the shoulders and weighs 105 to 125 pounds.

3. Buy a USDA-approved shipping crate adequately sized to be conducive for your pitbull's travel (stand, sit and turn) around in comfortably. (You can get a great one cheap at http://www.scrooby.com )

Beagles are known to be extremely social and cheerful dogs. They are expected to be so friendly that, even in dog shows, the judges expect them to be happy. They have points removed in the judging if they look to be unhappy.

4. Prior to the day you leave, remember to freeze a small tray or dish of water for your pitbull. This will prevent the water from spilling during boarding/loading. Affix a diminutive packet/pouch of dried food outside your pitbull's crate.

Male Irish wolfhounds are usually at least 32 to 34 inches tall and females are usually around 30 inches tall. This makes the Irish wolfhound the tallest breed. Although a few other dogs, such as the great dane, come close to equalling that height.

5. For identification purposes, tape an updated photograph of your pitbull onto the top of the crate. In case your pet breaks out of the carrier, the photo can be a lifesaver. (Do not forget to place a photo of your pitbull in your wallet.

Paul McCartney, of Beatles fame, was very fond of his shetland sheepdog. In fact, at the end of the song "A Day in the Life" Mr. McCartney inserted an ultrasonic whistle, audible only to dogs, for his shetland sheepdog.

6. Before you leave for the airport, remember to place a collar as well as an identification tag on your pitbull. In the event of a canine escape, the collar should include destination information in it.

Part of the reason that basset hounds have such a unique look is that the British purposely bred basset hounds to have short legs, so that hunters could keep up with them. Unfortunate this has caused the breed to be prone to leg/joint problems.
